The Miley Generation

So many have expressed everything from outrage to pity over Miley Cyrus’ performance at the VMA’s this week. It seems we are unaware that her performance was a wake up call. A look in the mirror. A strong dose of reality! We created this! This shocking performance is a glimpse into the soul of the Miley generation.

It is a generation that will do absolutely anything for attention! A generation that has absolutely no sense whatsoever of shame or propriety. Why? Because we tossed those values aside long before these children were ever born. We made words like “decency” and “modesty” curse words. Bigoted. Intolerant. So this is what we’re left with.

The great desire of every little girl is to be loved by her father. The Miley generation’s father is so self-absorbed he uses his own children to bring attention to himself. He teaches his daughter that nothing is worth more than being the center of attention - So she’ll do whatever it takes! He is obsessed with pornography and so his daughter strips down to her underwear and bumps and grinds on stage like all her father’s favorite performers. Like Herod, he sits there undaunted as the eyes of his friends feast on the flesh of his own little girl. Soon the voice of reason and conviction will be served up in a pool of blood on a silver platter.

The great need of every little girl is a mother who will teach her daughter the very virtues we have abandoned. Instead the Miley generation’s mother shops at the teen clothing store with her daughter, trying to live vicariously through her size two dresses, her push up bras and her daisy dukes. She paints her little girl’s face with lipstick and mascara by the age of four and teaches her that worth and value are found in everything external, while everything internal rots away in neglected silence.

Here’s the wake up call America: Miley has a soul! What we as parents do with the souls of those God has entrusted us with determines what shows up on the stage of life. As fathers, we must come out of the stupor of our sexual addictions and self absorption and be dads again - providers, protectors and leaders of our families. As mothers, we must abandon our worship of youth and be the kind of moms our children need us to be - nurturers, care takers and instructors in righteousness.

Miley is worth it. God demands it.

  2. Agree...we as Americans tend to blame issues such as this one on things based upon life styles and governments but what we tend to stay away from is our own accountability as Christians and our responsibilities as mothers and fathers in setting standards and examples. I feel pity for this young woman; somehow and or someway she feels like this example of "selfworth" is needed...for what reason I do not know. Maybe it deals with Jeff's reasons as well as her own personal decision making process. Either way, there seems to be a great lack of selfworth as per the defining basis of Christ Jesus being rooted within this young person's life. We have a "long row to hoe" as we sometimes say here in South La but the good news is that we have an excellent example to follow in reaching our young generation...Christ Jesus is His Name.

  4. Dear Pastor Mile,

I totally agree with your article. I can say that I was born in a christian family where those values that you talked about were existent as I was growing up. Unfortunately, not every teenagers and young adults were raised this way. I too believe that it's time to get back to morality or even that these values be thought to young adults.

    God bless you, Guy

  5. Right on!!! I fully agree, but you are opening up to being called bigot, idiot and many other terms associated with undesirables, but remember, there are more of us who agree with you than those able to write, broadcast, or telecast their views.

  6. I like how everything is blamed except for the real culprit: society's patriarchal views of women as objects whose bodies are deemed public property.

Nope! Must be all that porn the Head of the Household looks at.

And no mention of the culture that tells women daily they're too old, too ugly, too fat. Nah, it's just the individual mother who is the source of this, calling it out of the darkness like God moving on the face of the water.

Also, women can be protectors and providers just as men can be nurturing care takers. Maybe some sharing of each others' loads there might have a positive effect, too?

  7. You demean a whole generation on the behavior of this one family. Yes, they have had influence. Sad But True. However, other moms and dads should take responsibilities for their own behavior. Not everyone in this generation is like this

  9. Yes, the sad acts of a pampered and disturbed famous girl are the hallmark of an entire generation! Every girl under the age of 20 is exactly like this! Overstatement! Generalization!

    There, now I feel better.

  10. Something went wrong in Miley's life. There is a 'void' that needed the proper care and attention as she was growing up. Miley is headed the wrong direction. She had better stop this explicit entertainment before she gets into the wrong crowd..with the wrong men!

Miley is a young, attractive, and talented young woman who can be courted by many reputable suitors, if she allows herself the chance. "Miley, don't throw it all away-Take a GOOD LOOK at yourself and see what you're doing to your reputation"!!

    Sincerely,
    One Who Cares! ;)

  11. AKA - Thanks for the challenge! You're correct that I have painted the picture with awfully broad strokes and I apologize for that. There are many young people in this generation that are pure and decent and spending their lives on very worthwhile pursuits. Having said that, how I wish this were only the sad acts of a pampered and disturbed famous girl. That's just not the case. The point I attempted to make is that the heart breaking antics we saw acted out on that stage at the VMA's are lived out in mass every day in one form or another from so many in this generation that has grown up with way too little leadership from parents that are MIA! Here's the good news: According the Bible, the greatest outpouring of God's Holy Spirit the world has ever known has been reserved for the very generation we are describing! (Acts 2:17) I for one, cannot wait to see it happen!

  12. True. We are returning to the days of Noah, as the scriptures said we would.

  13. Working in the school district I could not agree with you more. When they are sent home with shorts not in dress code the parent runs up and fights for them to wear them we have a problem. When a male Christian teacher has to turn his temp down in his room so the female students will put some clothes on and cover up their chest hanging out we have a problem. I take pride that our little granddaughter picks a one piece swimsuit because the skippy two piece ones look like underwear to her even though at four she might look cute in it. Believe me this Miley generation is real.

  14. I totally agree and WOW so very well put, thank you Mike because I was thinking how ashamed her father would be and you gave me a wake up call, praise God...Amen!!!!

  15. What a waste of talent. The saddest part is the girls that look to her as a role model. Tragedy.

  16. Maybe I missed something. How is what she did any different than Madonna rolling around on he stage like she did, or Britany Spears and Madonna making out on stage. Every generation has its bad moments. I agree that this generation is sinful but lets not forget whose generation was their role models. Miley is looking for attention and she got it. We are giving it to her. It not just this generation. It's humans in general. Every generation has its Miley Cyrus.
